We will guide you based on your skin type, your skin health and the level of correction your skin needs.
Most people start with the Aspect Lactic Peel, before moving to deeper peels that offer higher levels of correction, but also more flaking afterwards. If your skin is super sensitive, a Glow Facial might also be a great introduction for you.
Darker skin Types are best suited to the Aspect Power peel and Prescription Vitamin A peel, as they do not produce heat in the skin. It is very important that you follow advice about skincare before and after your peel to minimise any potential complications and improve your skin health and healing.
At least 2-4 weeks before your peel, you should commence using corrective skincare. This is important to prevent pigmentation, speed up healing and reduce unwanted risks.
Skincare you should use everyday before a peel should include:
1. A Pigment inhibitor, such as Aspect Dr Complete Pigment Plus or Cosmedix Elite X-cell+
2. Retinol product to improve skin turnover, such as Aspect Dr Exfol A or Cosmedix Define or Cosmedix Refine
3. Sunscreen, such as Aspect Face SPF50
Do not undertake any waxing, facials, electrolysis, laser or sun exposure for 1-2 weeks before your peel.
Your face may swell slightly following a medium-depth peel and your skin may turn dark brown with white streaks. Following this, the skin will peel over 5-7 days, during which time it may be itchy, tight and easily irritated.
Once the skin has peeled, fresh, bright red skin will appear. This will fade to your normal skin tone over 3-6 weeks. Sometimes, skin redness persists for longer periods, but this also usually disappears in time.
Hyperpigmentation (brown spots on skin) may occur with all peels. To reduce the chance of this, apply high factor sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure for 6 weeks post peel.
If you are susceptible to cold sores, you may find you have an outbreak after a chemical peel. To help prevent this, taking a course of antiviral medicine beforehand may be advised by your practitioner.
Peels vary in depth, and also their intensity. Many of our peels will leave your skin looking bright and feeling soft and hydrated right after the treatment.
Our corrective peels are more intense. After these peels you might look a little red, and may have skin flaking or peeling for a 2-7 days afterwards. But this means, that your skin will be renewed and pigmentation will also improve.
It is very important that you carefully follow the advice of your practitioner, following a peel treatment, to help improve the benefit of the procedure and reduce the risk of complications or side effects.
As the chemical peel penetrates deeper layers of skin, you may experience skin tightness and peeling afterwards.
Do not scratch or pick at your skin as doing this may result in permanent scarring. The peeling skin is a barrier. Your aim is to take care of it, not remove it!
To help avoid infection, follow your practitioner's advice regarding hygiene, including washing your face gently with a mild cleanser and not wearing make-up.
Ensure you wear a high SPF sunscreen during the course of your treatment and for 4 weeks after. Avoid any direct sun exposure for 6 weeks.
Only use the skincare products advised by your practitioner.
Do not have any other facial treatments for at least 1 week after the peel.
